Return to SearchAnnual time series of a company's detailed natural gas receipts from another state or a U.S. border.
- Most-recent data:
2024
- Processing:
Data has been cleaned and organized into well-modeled tables that serve as building blocks for downstream wide tables and analyses.
- Source:
EIA Form 176 -- Annual Report of Natural and Supplemental Gas Supply and Disposition (Part 4, Line 3.0)
- Primary key:
This table has no primary key. This table has no enforced primary key because some operators do not report a supplier name, a few operators report more than one shipment from a supplier within a given year, and transportation mode was not reported prior to 2014. The natural primary key would be one record per report_year, operating_state, supplier_location, supplier_name, and mode of transportation.
Usage Warnings
The supplier_name field is a free-text field with observed inconsistency in reporting standards. It may contain a company or country name,non-standard locations such as 'outside usa', or not be reported at all. Truncation of text has also been observed in earlier years of data.
The supplier_location field is a free-text field that contains U.S. state codes, country codes that don't conform to the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 standards (e.g., C2, JA), and codes that do not appear to correspond to other geographies (e.g., FX for Gulf of Mexico). Notably, there are a few instances where supplier names and supplier locations do not appear to correspond. Exercise caution when using this field, which requires further normalization. To focus on imports within the U.S. vs. outside of it, filter on the supplier_location_typecolumn.
Columns
The unique EIA identifier for an operator in a given state. The last two letters of the ID indicate the state.
Four-digit year in which the data was reported.
State that the distribution utility is reporting for. Prior to 2004, this may be a list of states.
EIA continuation-line reference code associated with the gas receipt supplier. Recognized state, province, or territory names are normalized to two-letter codes. Other values are preserved as reported EIA codes and should not be interpreted as ISO country codes.
Type of the EIA continuation-line supplier location code. A value of subnational means the code matched a recognized state, province, or territory code. A value of national_or_other means the code was preserved as another reported EIA code. This classifies the code value only; the paired supplier_name is free text and may describe a company, country, location, placeholder, or truncated value.
Free-text supplier, counterparty, country, location, or placeholder reported on the EIA continuation line for the gas receipt.
Means by which natural gas was transported.
Volume of natural gas reported for a given category in the report state. Reference conditions for measurement are 14.73 psia and 60° Fahrenheit.
